Rant: Vampires and Werewolves

Mon Nov 24, 2008, 5:24 PM
Ok, so I've heard a lot of people are going nuts for the "Twilight" books and movie. I haven't read or seen it yet (so feel free to disagree with me), but I kind of get the impression that they are Vampires "Lite." My sis saw the movie with our cousin; she told me that the Twilight vamps can walk around in daylight and they "glitter" in the sun. I nearly busted a gut. It just seems a little silly. They sound like they have all the freedoms that mortals have; like there is no consequence or price for being immortal.

I'm not knocking the author. There must be a reason her books are flying off the shelves. I just don't agree with her interpretation. Call me a purist, that just doesn't sound like any vampires I've ever heard of.

If you want a good vamp+mortal girl romance, try "Silver Kiss" by Annette Curtis Klause. It's a beautiful and sad story.

Curtis Klause also wrote the wonderful werewolf book "Blood and Chocolate." You have to read the book, B&C was adapted into an absolutely terrible movie. The werewolves acted more like urban vampires than the wild creatures in the book. And they can cure silver poisoning? (really, don't get me started on that, Ugh!)

I also noticed L.J. Smith's "Night World" Series has made a comeback. I remember liking those when I was a kid. I never did find out if they averted the Apocalypse.

(Sigh* This started as a rant - I think it turned into a plug for some of my favorite books.)

A chicken? Yeah, why not, I'll see what I can come up with. I don't draw birds very often so this should be interesting. :)

I like chickens myself, cooked in any way and form they are just adorable. Anyhoo, you were looking for feedback (?) and I thought, well, foxes and chickens seem to be made for one another...
